Remember those disposable film cameras? Me too! Before digital we all used those babies and just snapped away and hoped that we got some good ones. Then came the digital camera and we no longer only had 35 pictures to get the shot. Back in the day I didn’t really use photography as an artistic outlet. Besides National Geographic I didn’t see pictures that really inspired me to pick up a camera and try my hand at making art out of a picture. In the last 5 to 10 years though the evolving artistic aspect of photography has caught my eye and a several years ago I knew it would be an avenue that I would eventually travel down and now I love it!
Coming back to film however has moved my heart a bit. I’m starting to be able to tell the difference between a digital image and a film image. I still love my digital camera and will continue to use it as my main camera for my portrait photography, but I know now that film is a part of my future and that it’s only the beginning of a beautiful relationship between the two of us.
My sister-in-law Justine was kind enough to lend me her Pentax ZX-60. I just finished my first roll of film in it and hurried away to get it developed. I am so in love! Deep rich color, beautiful film grain, and the bokeh…speechless! I did some minor editing in Lightroom to punch up the light a bit but that’s it.
